Art and Ambassador Agenda September 3-6, 2013

We are off to a great start in the art room. Please follow the art room blog. There is a link on the Holy Spirit School Webpage. It is in the staff area next to my name. It will give you the same agenda and will also include pictures of projects and students with their work!

If you notice any small plastic stencils among your child’s belongings, several are missing from the art room. They are about 2 1/2 inches square.

Text books are very heavy but do work well. No church song books or Bibles please. All books will be permanently altered (ruined) and will no longer be usable for the original purpose. We will be cutting, glueing, painting, etc. in the book, much like a scrap book. Books need to be in the art room by September 3rd.

Students in grades 4 and 7 need to bring an empty cereal box to school for an art project.

Students in grade 5 need to bring in a fist size rock and $1.00 in an envelope marked with their name. This is for 2 different projects.

Ambassadors will meet from 7:40-8:25 Wednesday, September 4th. 8th grade Ambassadors should bring their white binders.

First Day of Art

We are off to a great start here in the art room. I have seen both 4th grades, Mrs. Elliot's 1st grade and Miss Hill's 2nd grade.

4th grade is starting to think about the Indianapolis Children's Museum's Haunted House Drawing Contest. 2013 is the 50th birthday of the haunted house. This year the theme is "Time Warp: 50 Years of Fear". Students are to draw and color their original idea of a scary picture from any of the decades for the last 50 years. I know it seems early to think about Halloween but entries are due at the museum by September 11th! We are discussing the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and the 00's and what easily represents each decade. Your input would be appreciated!

First grade learned an art magic trick......press hard with crayon and color over with markers and the marker does not stick to the crayon....wax resist. This works especially well with white crayon and darker markers. (Just like coloring Easter Eggs!)

Second grade is learning about the artist George Rodrigue and his Blue Dog series. We worked on a Blue Dog drawing that we will color in the next class. Blue Dog is especially fun since he goes lots of places and does lots of things in George Rodrigue's paintings.

In our classroom, Blue Dog reminds us to clean our tables and the floor under our area! He is such a good dog!
